We aim to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, and our volunteers play a crucial role in supporting various activities and operational areas. As we embark on special annual events and continue to run essential day-to-day programmes, our volunteers are vital in enhancing the resident experience and supporting our staff.
General
- Rotate between household, portering, admin, and reception tasks as rostered.
- Carry out duties in accordance with HIQA, infection control, and hospital policies.
- Maintain a courteous, compassionate, and professional manner at all times.
Household Support
- Deliver general and deep cleaning duties as per the hygiene schedule.
- Report any maintenance issues or hazards to line manager.
- Support with laundry and waste handling duties as assigned.
Portering Duties
- Support internal delivery of meals and refreshments to units and residents.
- Safely transport documents, specimens, or equipment as requested.
- Assist with internal deliveries and maintain the porter log.
Reception Duties
- Greet all visitors, families, and contractors and manage sign-in logs (manual or digital).
- Respond to internal and external queries in person or by phone.
- Maintain security, confidentiality, and visitor policies.
Administrative Support
- Carry out clerical tasks including data entry, filing, and scanning.
- Support the logging of transport records, daily sheets, and internal communications.
- Assist with event coordination or logistical duties for activities.
Compliance and Reporting
- Adhere to hospital policies on confidentiality both within and outside the workplace.
- Immediately report all incidents or accidents to the Resident Services Manager and complete the necessary forms in accordance with policy
- Cooperate with any accident/incident investigations and After Action Reviews
Health and Safety
- Review and remain updated with the Hospital’s Health and Safety Manual.
- Attend in-service training provided by hospital departments or external agencies.
- Adhere to al the Hospital Health and safety policies and requirements.
- Wear the uniform and P.P.E. provided and follow the Hospital’s Dress Code .
Professional Conduct
- Represent the hospital professionally by maintaining a clean and tidy uniform.
- Act as an ambassador for the hospital at all times, upholding its values and fostering a positive image within the community and beyond.
- Wear the name badge supplied when on duty
Essential
- QQI Level 5 in Health Service Skills, Healthcare Support, or equivalent.
- Ability to multitask and work across multiple departments.
- Demonstrate commitment to confidentiality, hygiene, and person-centred service.
- Proficient communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, etc.).Age
Age restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age.
Health
A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character
Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Post Specific Requirements
- Flexibility to work rotating duties across service areas.
- Willingness to work weekends / nights and shifts as required.
- Strong awareness of infection prevention and resident dignity.
Notice Period
The minimum period of notice will be 3 months as set out in the contract of employment
Garda Vetting
It is a HIQA and Hospital requirement that all staff will be garda vetted. Each candidate will be required to complete a Garda Vetting form at job offer stage.
Sick Leave
Payment of sick leave is at the discretion of Hospital management and will be in accordance with Department of Health (DoH)/ Health Service Executive (HSE) regulations. It is the responsibility of the employee to adhere to the protocols relating to notification of sick leave to their immediate line manager, return to work interviews etc.
Hygiene
During employment staff members are required to ensure that the Hospitals’ hygiene and infection control policies are always adhered to. All employees have responsibility to prevent transmission of infection by adhering and implementing optimal hand hygiene and adhering to the hospitals’ hygiene processes. Hygiene is a fundamental component of Leopardstown Park Hospital quality system to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its residents and staff and plays a role in the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections.
Attire
At all times staff will be suitably dressed in accordance with the Hospital dress code policy and will use appropriate personal protection equipment as required.
Policies / Legislation
All hospital policies and procedures form an integral part of an employment contract and may be subject to update and revision, from time to time, in consultation with union representatives as appropriate. Employees are required to familiarise themselves with and comply with all hospital policies, procedures (e.g. Dignity at Work, Trust in Care etc.) and the hospitals’ ethical code of practice. e.g.

Please note the following
- The hospital board is not responsible for loss or theft of personal belongings.
- Fire orders must be observed, and attendance at annual fire is mandatory.
- Staff must attend mandatory (appropriate) training as required
- All accidents within the department must be reported immediately and an incident report form submitted to the appropriate officer.
- In line with the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act (2005), smoking is permitted at the discretion of management in designated external areas only.
- All staff are advised to avail of preventative inoculations (e.g. Hep B, Flu Vaccine etc.)
- The use of personal mobile phones during work is prohibited.
Probation
A nine-month probation period will apply to all employees. This period may be extended at the discretion of management. The person employed shall cease to be employed at the end of the probationary period, unless the hospital certifies that the probationary period had been satisfactorily discharged. The hospital may at any time during the probationary period, terminate the employment without reason.
Confidentiality
In the course of your employment, you may have access to or hear information concerning the medical or personal affairs of patients, students, staff and / or other health service business. Such records and information are strictly confidential and, unless acting on the instruction of an authorised officer, such information must not be divulged or discussed except in the performance of normal duty. In addition, records must never be left in such a manner that unauthorised persons can obtain access to them and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required.

Campaign Specific Selection Process
A ranking and or shortlisting exercise may be carried out based on information supplied in your application form. The criteria for ranking and or shortlisting are based on the requirements of the post as outlined in the eligibility criteria and skills, competencies and/or knowledge section of this job specification. Therefore, it is very important that you think about your experience considering those requirements. Failure to include information regarding these requirements may result in you not being called forward to the next stage of the selection process.
Short listing / Interview
Those successful at the ranking stage of this process (where applied) will be placed on an order of merit and will be called to interview depending on the service needs of the organisation.
Tenure
The current vacancy is permanent and Full-Time.
The post is pensionable. A panel maybe created from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration will be filled. The tenure of these posts will be indicated at “expression of interest” stage.
Remuneration
The Salary scale for the post is in accordance with Health Sector Consolidated Salary Scales
Working Week
39 hours per week, rostered over 5 days out of 7 as required by LPH
Annual Leave
23 days per annum (pro-rata for part-time employment), subject to management approval and hospital service needs.
Superannuation
Provision is made for pensions, and where applicable is in accordance with either the Local Government (Superannuation) Act 1956, & Superannuation (Revision) Scheme, 1977 and 1998 or the Single Public Service Pension Scheme Act 2012.
