The Board of Leopardstown Park Hospital has collective responsibility for Leopardstown Park Hospital by leading and directing the activities of the organisation guided by the Code of Governance and Code of Conduct for State Boards.

Legal Context

Leopardstown Park Hospital as we now know it was established in 1979 as a State Body under the Leopardstown Hospital (Establishment) Order, 1979.

As a State Board it adheres to the Code of Practice for State Boards. The Chairperson and Board are appointed by the Minister for Health for a term of five years and all act in a voluntary capacity.

The hospital operates in partnership with the HSE (CHO 6) Community Healthcare Organisation. It is funded directly by the HSE under Section 38 of the Health Act 2004 and resident fees under the Nursing Home Support Scheme (Fair Deal)

The Board of Leopardstown Park Hospital has collective responsibility for Leopardstown Park Hospital by leading and directing the activities of the organisation guided by the Code of Governance and Code of Conduct for State Boards.

The Board meets an average of eight times per year and takes responsibility for compliance with all statutory obligations applicable to them. The Chief Executive and Director of Finance attend Board meetings and other members of the Senior Management Team attend as required.

The Board has a number of sub-committees to assist in its governance function, each with agreed terms of reference. The Board also has a Charitable Foundation which is registered with the Charities Regulator and assists in supporting the hospital in providing additional services to the hospital.
