Volunteer with Leopardstown Park Hospital
Supporting Connection, Dignity and Everyday Living
At Leopardstown Park Hospital, we are committed to providing a warm, respectful and person-centred environment where residents are supported to live with dignity, choice and a sense of belonging. Volunteers are an important part of this community and make a valuable contribution to everyday life across the hospital.
Volunteering with Leopardstown Park Hospital is about presence, connection and supporting meaningful moments in daily life. Whether through companionship, activities, events or skills-based support, volunteers help to enhance the experience of residents, day service attendees and visitors, while becoming part of a caring and inclusive community.
We welcome individuals, students, community groups and corporate partners who wish to contribute in a respectful, supportive and person-centred way.
Why Volunteer with Us
Volunteering at Leopardstown Park Hospital is about more than giving time. It is about supporting connection, enhancing quality of life and contributing to a positive and inclusive environment for those who live in, attend and visit our hospital.
Our volunteers support the social and recreational life of the hospital in ways that are guided by dignity, kindness, respect and person-centred care.
Volunteer Opportunities
Companionship and Social Support
Volunteers may spend time with residents on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, supporting conversation, reading, reminiscence, or simply being present. These visits can help foster connection and reduce social isolation.
Recreational Activities and Events
Volunteers can support group activities and events across the hospital, including music sessions, arts and crafts, seasonal events and social gatherings. This helps to maintain a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for residents.
Day Centre Support
Volunteers may assist in the Day Centre by helping to create a welcoming environment and supporting attendees to participate in daily activities and programmes.
Outdoor Spaces and Environment
There may be opportunities to support the upkeep and enhancement of gardens and shared outdoor spaces, helping to maintain calm and therapeutic surroundings for residents and visitors.
Corporate and Group Volunteering
We welcome corporate teams and community groups who wish to support Leopardstown Park Hospital through structured volunteering opportunities and shared projects.
Student and Transition Year Opportunities
We offer opportunities for students to gain experience in a healthcare setting while making a positive contribution to hospital life in a supervised and structured way.
Skills-Based Volunteering
We also welcome expressions of interest from those who wish to share a particular skill or talent, such as music, art, wellbeing activities, reading or other creative and social pursuits.
Junior Volunteer Programme (Ages 12–16)
As part of our commitment to community engagement and intergenerational connection, Leopardstown Park Hospital offers a Junior Volunteer Programme for young people aged 12 to 16.
This programme provides a safe, supportive and supervised environment where young people can contribute positively to hospital life while developing confidence, empathy and a sense of social responsibility. Junior volunteers may support social and recreational activities, group events and celebrations, creative programmes and intergenerational initiatives.
All activities are age-appropriate, non-clinical and fully supervised by staff. Parental or guardian consent is required for all junior volunteers.
Who Can Volunteer
We welcome interest from individuals from the local community, students and Transition Year participants, community and voluntary groups, corporate volunteering teams, and individuals with a skill, talent or special interest they would like to share.
All volunteering opportunities are subject to suitability, service needs and the hospital’s onboarding requirements.
How to Become a Volunteer
All volunteers complete a structured onboarding process to ensure a safe, supportive and positive experience for residents and volunteers alike.
The process includes:
- completing an expression of interest
- an initial meeting to discuss interests, availability and suitability
- Garda Vetting and reference checks, where required
- induction and orientation to Leopardstown Park Hospital and the volunteer role
- ongoing support throughout the volunteer experience
Applicants to the Junior Volunteer Programme will also be required to complete a Junior Volunteer Application Form, with parental or guardian consent, before progressing through the onboarding process.
Our Commitment
Leopardstown Park Hospital values the contribution of volunteers and is committed to ensuring that volunteering is well-supported, meaningful and aligned with the needs and wellbeing of residents.
All volunteers are expected to uphold the values of dignity, respect, privacy, safeguarding and person-centred support in all aspects of their role.
