This year conference theme — “Leading and Managing Health and Social Care in a VUCA World: Embracing Technology and Innovation” — explored how leaders can adapt, innovate, and guide teams effectively in times of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.

The conference featured keynote contributions from Bernard Gloster, CEO of the HSE, and Michael Dowling, CEO Emeritus of Northwell Health, both of whom reflected on leadership, resilience, and innovation in healthcare.

A particular highlight for Leopardstown Park Hospital was the Afternoon Panel Discussion, “Digital Disruption: Friend or Foe in Health and Social Care?”, chaired by Adrian Ahern, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Leopardstown Park Hospital and HMI Council Member. The session examined the balance between technological advancement and the human aspects of care delivery, emphasising how innovation can enhance rather than replace compassion.

Leopardstown Park Hospital also showcased its Climate & Sustainability – ENWW 2025 initiative as part of the poster exhibition, presenting the hospital’s achievements in environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, and staff engagement.

Key highlights of the ENWW 2025 initiative included:

  • A 23.9% reduction in electricity usage, saving €34,810 in energy costs.

  • Introduction of renewable HVO fuel for the transport fleet.

  • Energy-efficient lighting, eco-friendly cleaning materials, and food waste composting.

  • Biodiversity projects including bee-friendly planting and sustainable landscaping.

These initiatives form part of Leopardstown Park Hospital’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, innovation, and continuous improvement, ensuring that care delivery is both person-centred and environmentally responsible.

We thank the Health Management Institute of Ireland for hosting an engaging and thought-provoking event that continues to inspire excellence and leadership across Ireland’s healthcare sector.
